Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know.

Planning a safari should be exciting, not overwhelming. Here are answers to the most common questions we receive.

Planning Your Safari

We recommend booking at least 6–12 months in advance, especially for the Great Migration season (July–October) and peak periods. Popular camps fill up quickly, and early booking gives you the widest selection of dates and accommodations. That said, last-minute itineraries can sometimes be arranged — contact us and we'll do our best.

Tanzania offers extraordinary wildlife year-round, but the best time depends on what you want to experience. The dry season (June–October) is ideal for general game viewing as animals gather around water sources. The Great Migration's dramatic river crossings typically occur July–September in the northern Serengeti. The green season (November–May) brings lush landscapes, fewer crowds, excellent birdwatching, and lower rates.

Absolutely — bespoke itinerary design is at the heart of what we do. Every journey is unique. Our safari designers will speak with you in detail about your interests, travel style, budget, group size, and any special requirements, then craft a journey that truly fits. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all packages.

For private safaris, you have the entire vehicle to yourselves — typically a customized 4x4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof. For our small-group scheduled departures, we cap groups at 6 guests per vehicle to ensure a quality experience for everyone. We never combine private bookings with other groups.

What's Included

Our safari prices typically include all accommodation as listed, all meals at camp, game drives and guided activities as per the itinerary, all park and conservation fees, services of an English-speaking guide and camp staff, and ground transfers between camps. International or domestic flights, visas, travel insurance, tips/gratuities, and personal items are generally not included unless specified.

International flights are not included in our packages. However, we can arrange and include internal/domestic flights within Tanzania (e.g. Arusha to Serengeti airstrips), which we strongly recommend for efficiency and comfort. We'll always clearly indicate what's included in your personalised quote.

All meals are included at your camps except where noted. Luxury tented camps typically serve three restaurant-quality meals daily plus afternoon tea and bush sundowners. Please inform us of any dietary requirements — camps are very accustomed to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs.

Health & Preparation

Tanzania does not legally require vaccinations for entry (unless arriving from a yellow fever endemic country). However, we strongly recommend consulting a travel medicine specialist or your doctor at least 6–8 weeks before departure. Commonly recommended vaccinations include Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and Tetanus. Malaria prophylaxis is highly recommended for all safari areas.

Most nationalities require a visa to visit Tanzania. You can obtain a tourist visa on arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam), Kilimanjaro International Airport, or online via the Tanzania e-Visa portal before travel. Currently, the fee is USD $50 for most nationalities. We recommend checking current requirements with the Embassy or High Commission of Tanzania in your country.

Neutral-coloured clothing is essential (khaki, beige, olive, grey). Avoid white and bright colours. You'll need layers — mornings and evenings in the bush can be surprisingly cold, especially in the Ngorongoro Crater. A good sun hat, high-factor sunscreen, insect repellent, quality binoculars, a camera, and comfortable closed-toe shoes are all key. Camp weight limits for light aircraft transfers are typically 15kg in a soft bag.

Booking & Payments

We require a 30% non-refundable deposit to confirm your booking, with the balance due 60 days before departure. Cancellations made 60+ days before departure forfeit the deposit only. Within 60 days, cancellations may incur greater charges depending on camp policies. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that includes trip cancellation coverage.

Travel insurance is not legally required but is strongly recommended and considered essential by us. You should have cover for: trip cancellation, emergency medical evacuation (costly in remote Tanzania), and medical treatment. We can recommend specialist safari travel insurers if you need guidance.

We accept international bank transfers (USD, EUR, GBP) and major credit cards including Visa and Mastercard. Please note credit card payments may incur a small processing fee. Full payment details and a formal invoice will be provided with your booking confirmation.
